Mary Gladys Elliott, 86, of Washington, formerly of Claysville, died Monday, January 18, 2010, in Washington County Health Center.
She was born March 13, 1923, in East Finley Township, a daughter of James G. and Bertha Danley Elliott.
Ms. Elliott was a 1941 graduate of Claysville High School and completed one year of nursing training.
She was a secretary and bookkeeper for Dr. Orville Lewis, DVM, as well as the doctor’s personal caregiver in his declining years.
Ms. Elliott was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church where she had played the piano for many years. She especially enjoyed her dog, Phoebe, as well as the farm animals on her small farm.
Surviving are three nieces, Bonnie R. (Lloyd) Dawson, of Beaver, Linda Wilson Whittaker of Richmond, Virginia, and Mary Beth Little of Roanoke, Virginia; three nephews, Mark, Jeffrey and Douglas Dawson, all of Beaver; a sister, Margery Elliott Wilson of Roanoke, Virginia; a cousin, Theda Williams of Claysville; and Sharon and Sam Caldwell, who were her caregivers for many years.
Deceased is a sister, Opal Elliott River.
A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m., Wednesday, January 20th, in Fairmount Cemetery, 120 Fairmount Church Road, West Finley, PA 15377. Rev. Phillip Campbell will officiate.
