Wilbur Lee Logsdon, 89, of Washington, formerly of Chartiers Township, died Sunday, April 12, 2009, in Washington Hospital after having been in declining health.
Mr. Logsdon was born in Taylorstown, on March 12, 1920, a son of Willard Ricky and Mary Jane Rothwell Logsdon. He attended Taylorstown Schools and served in the United States Army Air Corps in World War II in Germany.
He first worked for Martin Lumber Company for seven years, afterwards John R. Cowden for twenty-one years, later retired from Aloe Coal Company after working more than twenty-three years as a heavy equipment operator. He last worked for his son who owns C.L. Logsdon Lawn Grooming.
Mr. Logsdon spent many winters living in Florida while spending the remainder of the year in the Washington area. He was a member of A.A.R.P. He also enjoyed working with draft horses at the Washington County Fair for many years.
On April 29, 1941 he married Elizabeth E. Huntsman who survives. Also surviving are a son, Charles Lee Logsdon of Washington and a sister Marie Baker of Cleveland, Ohio, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death are brothers, Harry, Charles, William, George, and Frank Logsdon; sisters, Mae Smith, Ethel Gordon, Ruth Cotrill, Pearl Foster, Hazel Mace, and Mary Mitchell.
Friends of Wilbur Lee Logsdon, 89, of Washington who died Sunday, April 12, 2009, will be received on Tuesday, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM, in the William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd.,925 Allison Avenue, where services will be held on Wednesday, April 15, 2009, at 1:00 PM. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery. Military Honors graveside by Edwin Scott Linton Post # 175 American Legion.
