Laura Jean Mcdowell

Laura Jean McDowell, 87, of Washington, died Monday, February 8, 2010, in Southmont of Presbyterian Senior Care. She was born October 11, 1922, in Washington County, a daughter of Glenn and Sylvia Mounts Sprowls. Mrs. McDowell was a homemaker and life member of East Buffalo Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed quilting, reading, telling stories and going to garage sales and auctions. On December 15, 1941, she married Harold Melvin McDowell, who survives. Also surviving are two sons, William (Shirley) McDowell of Cayuga Falls, Ohio, and Douglas (Wonda) McDowell of Washington; a daughter, Sharon (William) Scott of Washington; two brothers, Wayne Sprowls of Washington and Gaylord Sprowls of Henderson, Nevada; a sister, Shirley Chambers of Washington; eight grandchildren, Brent, Ryan, Michael, Wendy, Eli, Cynthia, Todd and Shelley; 16 great-grandchildren, Zoe, Haley, Alyssa, Elijah, Ty, Madison, Amanda, Matthew, Frank, Chrissy, Joe, Zach, Luke, Mason, Ethan and Sydney; and three great-great grandchildren, Hayden, Mara, Anabell. Deceased are siblings Glenn R., Margarete, William, Donald, Annie and Edith. Friends will be received 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. Services will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, February 12th, in East Buffalo Presbyterian Church, with Pastor Linda Mankey officiating. Burial will follow in Claysville Cemetery.
