George Robert Riggle

George Robert “Bob” Riggle, 90, of Washington, died Friday, March 5, 2010, in Canonsburg General Hospital. He was born October 16, 1919, in Claysville, a son of Charles Leslie and Ona Susan Hunt Riggle. On August 14, 1942, Mr. Riggle entered the Army Air Force, where his military specialty was Radio Operator Mechanic. He attained the rank of sergeant and received the AAF Air Crew Member Badge (Wings), American Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal and World War II Victory Medal. He was Honorably Discharged January 9, 1946. Mr. Riggle joined Manufacturers Light and Heat Company in 1951, working as a utility man in Washington. He was assigned to the gas dispatching staff in 1955 and appointed senior gas dispatcher in 1964. He supervised a natural gas pipeline and underground storage network supplying communities in Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia, Maryland and New York. He also worked at Columbia Gas as a chief controller. Mr. Riggle was a member of First United Presbyterian Church and James Hunt, Post 639, of the American Legion. He loved his family and was an avid hunter and fisherman, enjoyed gardening and the outdoors. Mr. Riggle was unable to graduate as a young man. He returned to school in 1964, graduating from Washington High School with his son, and attained a G.P.A. of 98.9. On January 10, 1944, he was married to Neva O. Bosold, by the Rev. Carl Olson in Pueblo, Colorado. Surviving in addition to his wife are a son, Daniel H. Riggle, of Claysville; a daughter, Marcia (James) McCalla, of Washington; a brother, Harold (Sam) Riggle, of Washington; four grandchildren, Jim, Kevin, Kris and Emily Pozzi; two step grandchildren, Jeff Kuhn and Karrie Lyons; a great granddaughter, Ashley McCalla, four step great grandchildren, Dalton Kuhn, Tackitt Lyons, Boone Lyons and Fallon Lyons; and several nieces and nephews. Deceased are three brothers, Dale F., Charles, and Jack Riggle; and a sister, Eleanor Swart. Friends will be received 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. Services will be held At 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 9, 2010, in Church of Christ, 700 Allison Avenue, Washington, with Rev. Meade Lacock officiating. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded by James Hunt, Post 639, of the American Legion. The family suggests memorial contributions to Alzheimer’s Association, Southwestern PA Regional Office, 100 West Station Square Drive, Suite 500, Pittsburgh, PA 15219-1122.
