Betty Jane Martin Piatt, 81, of Washington, died Sunday, November 15, 2009, in the Washington Hospital.
She was born November 29, 1927, in Grafton, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Floyd D. and Orpha L. Stansberry Martin.
Mrs. Piatt was a homemaker who had once worked at Duncan Miller Glass and Hazel Atlas #2. She enjoyed being with family, especially her 11 great-grandchildren, camping, baking, attending the annual family reunion, and watching black and white movies. She loved visiting family and friends and you would always know when she had been to your house, she would have all your dirty dishes washed up.
Mrs. Piatt was Protestant by faith.
On March 5, 1948, she married James R. Piatt, Sr., who died April 10, 2005.
Surviving are a son, James R. “Jake” Piatt, Jr., of Washington, with whom she made her home; three daughters, Twila (John) Lehew of Waynesburg, Sally McKahan of Washington and Orpha Lynn (Frank) Maiello of Washington; nine grandchildren, Tammy Lehew Ball, John Lehew, Jr., Jamie Piatt Studt, Janie Lehew, Bobbi Jo McKahan Novak, Jimmy Piatt, III, Dana Maiello, Frankie Maiello, III, and Rob McKahan; two brothers, Floyd (Mary Lou) Martin of Downey, California, and Don (Diane) Martin of Cameron, West Virginia; one sister, Twyla (Jack) Berry of Zanesville, Ohio; and 11 great grandchildren.
She also leaves a dear cousin, Sally Ealy; and a sister-in-law, Lil “Dilly” Martin.
Deceased are a son-in-law, Bob McKahan; four brothers, Darl Martin, French Martin, Elmer Engle, John S. Engle; and a sister, Mary Engle Haught.
Friends will be received 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, November 20th, with Pastor Edward Woods officiating. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery.
