Barry Rand Rush, 61, of Alexander, North Carolina, died Monday, November 16, 2009, in Charles George Veterans Administration Medical Center, Asheville, North Carolina.
He was born August 23, 1948, in West Middletown, a son of Geraldine Rush of Union City and the late John Rush.
Mr. Rush graduated from Avella High School. He served in the Marine Corps from June 29, 1967, until his honorable discharge on July 17, 1970, with a rank of Sergeant. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with one star, Vietnam Campaign Medal with device, Combat Action Ribbon and Cross of Gallantry with Palm.
Mr. Rush was an over-the-road truck driver for Youngblood Trucking for 15 years.
He enjoyed being outdoors, hunting and fishing.
Mr. Rush belonged to the American Legion, Leathernecks and Marine Corps League in North Carolina.
He was Baptist.
Surviving are two sons, Josh (Dana) Rush and Jeremy Rush, both of Washington; a daughter, Rhonda (Kevin) Cathers of Waynesburg; a sister, Sandy Shields of Erie; and seven grandchildren.
Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 9:45 a.m., Monday, November 23rd. Burial will follow in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies. Military rites will be accorded graveside by Edwin Scott Linton American Legion Post 175. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family in care of the funeral home.
