Helen Marie Navoy, 89, of Washington, died Wednesday, November 18, 2009, in her residence.
She was born June 8, 1920, in Washington, a daughter of Tony and Stella Parcha Shawinski.
Mrs. Navoy was a graduate of Trinity High School, class of 1937 and the recipient of the school’s first Spirit of Friendship Award, and of Duffs Business College. She was self-employed in the grocery business for 22 years and then worked as a teachers’ aid at Log Pile School in Trinity Area School District.
Mrs. Navoy was a member of AARP, the Polish Club, where she had served as treasurer, Senior Citizens’ Center and its organ class, Washington County Chapter of School Retirees and Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Public School Employees Retirement System.
She was a member of Holy Trinity National Catholic Church and also attended First Lutheran Church. At Holy Trinity, she was a member of the Ladies Adoration Society and involved with the choir and Sunday School.
On June 9, 1940, in First Lutheran Church, she married Walter “Nay” Navoy, who died December 12, 1989.
Surviving are two sons, Franklin Barry Navoy of Pompano Beach, Florida and Walter Allan Navoy of New Orleans, Louisiana; two daughters, Sandra Lee Bebout and Susan Elaine Frantz, both of Washington; and two brothers, Leo Shawin of Washington and Dr. Stanley Shaw of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; eight grandchildren, Robert Bebout, Tami Spears, Mack Frantz, Melanie Frantz, Katie Navoy, Sarah Navoy, Michael Navoy, Chad Navoy; and seven great-grandchlldren, Cody Spears, Cheyene Bebout, Devin Spears, Ross Bebout, Wyatt Spears, Jared Bebout, and Chad Navoy, Jr.
Deceased are a brother, Albert Shawinski, and a sister, Wilma Karaula Richmond.
Friends will be received Friday from 2 to 9 p.m. in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Saturday, November 21st, in Holy Trinity National Catholic Church, with Bishop John Mack as celebrant. Burial will follow in Holy Trinity National Catholic Cemetery.
