Henry W. (Hank) McCartney, 92, of Washington, died Wednesday, April 29, 2009, in Donnell House.
He was born January 8, 1917, in Houston, a son of Ollie W. and Clara Campbell McCartney.
Mr. McCartney was a graduate of Trinity High School. For 15 years, he was a truck driver for Coen Oil.
Mr. McCartney enjoyed woodcrafts and making yard decorations.
He served in the United States Navy from August 31, 1943, until his honorable discharge on January 13, 1946, with a rank of coxswain.
He served aboard ships in the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans and also on a ship that traveled to Murmansk, Russia. Mr. McCartney�s military awards included the European Theater Ribbon, Pacific Theater Ribbon, American Theater Ribbon and the World War II Victory Medal.
On April 8, 1939, he married Lucille Elma Irwin, who survives. They celebrated their 70 years of marriage on April 8, 2009.
Also surviving are a daughter, Beverly (Bill) Patterson of Washington; a sister, Ruth Mondik; two grandchildren, Autumn (David) Langham and Matthew (Cassandra) Patterson; three great-grandchildren, Jesse, Charity and Lily Langham; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are two brothers, Harold and Ollie McCartney; and a sister, Betty Lovrencic.
Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 2nd, with Rev. Floyd Marasco officiating. Entombment will follow in Washington Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Donnell House, Hospice Care of the Washington Hospital, 155 Wilson Avenue, Washington, PA 15301; or to a charity of the donor�s choice.
