Melvin Harold Arthur, Sr., 73, of Chartiers Township, died Thursday, April 15, 2010, in the Washington Hospital, following a brief illness.
He was born January 20, 1937, in Washington, a son of Glenn N. and Freda Chivers Arthur.
Mr. Arthur was a graduate of Chartiers High School and worked as a truck driver for Chartiers Township for 20 years.
He was a Steelers fan and enjoyed garage sales, flea markets and hunting.
Mr. Arthur was Presbyterian by faith.
On September 21, 1979, he married Virginia Mae Beaver, who died February 8, 2007.
Surviving are a son, Melvin H. Arthur, Jr., of Cokeburg; a daughter, Marcie (Jay) Short, of Phoenix, Arizona; four step-daughters, Diana (Timothy) Hilderbrand of Waynesburg, Kimberly (David) Ifrate of Shadyside, Ohio, Cheryl Bates of Colorado, and Cynthia Amendt of Texas; two brothers, Glenn N. Arthur, Jr., of Gales Ferry, Connecticut and James S. Arthur of Grants Pass, Oregon; two step brothers, Tom Arthur and Bill Hall; a step sister, Donna Arthur; 22 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Deceased are a brother, Jack Arthur; and three sisters, Evelyn A. Cordy, Lila Jean Montecino and Freda Mae Arthur.
Friends will be received Sunday, April 18th, from 1 to 4 p.m., the time of service, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, with Rev. Thomas Hamilton officiating.
