Ralph Edwin Piatt, 70, of Washington, died Sunday, March 21, 2010, at the Washington Hospital, after a brief illness. He was born December 21, 1939, in Greene County, a son of Edwin Whylie and Carrie Ruth Catherine Ealy Piatt. Mr. Piatt was the past president of the Pennsylvania Society of Land Surveyors. In 1968, he earned Land Survey Registration. In 1982, he was awarded the PSLS Southwest Chapter, Surveyor of the Year Award. In 1984, he was awarded the Pennsylvania Society of Land Surveyors Distinguished Service Award. In 1985, he was awarded the Pennsylvania Society of Land Surveyors Surveyor of the Year Award. Mr. Piatt served in various offices of the Pennsylvania Society of Land Surveyors, including the position of President, in 1987. He was Vice President at Monaloh Basin Engineers, until his retirement, after which he continued part-time as a consultant. Mr. Piatt served as a volunteer with the Boy Scouts for several years, at local and district levels. He was an active member of Avery United Methodist Church. On August 13, 1960, he married Doris Anderson, who survives. Also surviving are 4 sons, Donald (Lucy) Piatt, of Mason, OH; Daniel (Maria) Piatt, of Washington; Dennis (Mary) Piatt, of Bedford, PA and David (Kimberly) Piatt, of Hanoverton, OH; and 13 grandchildren, Jacob, Francesca, Sarah, Katie, Christopher, Andrew, Samuel, Matthew, Elizabeth, Mary Hannah, Patrick, Morgan and Jessica. Friends will be received from 7 to 9:00 p.m., Monday, and from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9:00 p.m. Tuesday, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. Services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 24, 2010 in Avery United Methodist Church. Entombment will follow in Washington Cemetery Mausoleum. Family suggests memorial donations to the American Diabetes Association, 300 Penn Center Boulevard, Suite 602, Pittsburgh, PA 15235.
