Otto Frederick Hohing

May 5, 1941 — March 21, 2010

Otto Frederick Hohing, 68, of Washington, passed away with loved ones present, on Sunday, March 21, 2010, in Washington Hospital. He was born May 5, 1941, in Pittsburgh, a son of the late Otto A. Hohing and Lucile Sheakley Hohing. He grew up in Dormont, raised his family in Rogersville, Greene County, and lived in Washington until his passing. Mr. Hohing was a 1959 graduate of Dormont High School. On October 27, 1959, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served until his honorable discharge on October 24, 1963, with a rank of electrician’s mate, second class. He was stationed at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, and earned a Good Conduct Medal for his service. Prior to retirement, Mr. Hohing worked for five years as a caseworker for the State Welfare Office in Greene County. The previous 25 years he worked as a car salesman in Greene and Washington Counties. Mr. Hohing loved cars since he was a young child, so no one was surprised that this was his profession for so many years. On May 9, 1970, he married Catherine Mae Link, who survives. Otto and Catherine would have celebrated their 40th anniversary this May. Also surviving are three children, Regina (Bryan) Porter of McDonald, Otto R. (Misty) Hohing of Washington, and Heather (Dr. Emmanuel) Adekunle of Akron, Ohio; granddaughters, Katie Hohing, Amber Hohing, Ayona Adekunle, Zakaiya Adekunle, and Yaminah Adekunle; grandsons, Zachary Porter, Xavier Adekunle and Aidan Porter; and a sister, Suzanne (Raymond) Comfort of Michigan. Deceased is a brother, Otto, who died in infancy. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 10th, in Jefferson Avenue United Methodist Church, 160 Jefferson Avenue, Washington, with Rev. John Hoffman and Rev. Bruce Judy co-officiating.
