Owner of personal care home enjoyed crafts.
Bernice "Babe" Montgomery of Westlake, La., formerly of Washington, died Wednesday, January 6, 2010, in Christus St. Patrick Hospital in Lake Charles, La. She was born April 4, 1929, in Washington, a daughter of Loring Lonzo and Anna May Wheeler Medlen. Mrs. Montgomery was a member of East Buffalo Presbyterian Church. She was owner-operator of a personal care home in West Finley. Mrs. Montgomery enjoyed crafts and attending horse shows with her husband. On June 9, 1946, she married John Dille Montgomery, who died October 19, 1988. Surviving are a daughter, Stacy Louise Montgomery Nicosia of Lake Charles; three brothers, Harold Medlen of Brooklyn, Ohio, Leroy Medlen of Medina, Ohio, and Kenneth Medlen of Rantoul, Ill.; two sisters, Pearl Hutter of Washington and Barbara Wood of Jeannette; two grandchildren, Christopher John Nicosia and Jordan Michael Nicosia; and several nieces and nephews. Deceased are four brothers, Loring, Melvin, James and Albert Medlen, and four sisters, Mary Hall, Alice Carpenter, Elmay McVehil and Angeline Myers.
Friends will be received from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. Additional visitation will be held from 9:30 to 11 a.m., the time of service, Tuesday, January 12, in Church of Christ, 700 Allison Avenue, Washington. Burial will follow in Prosperity Cemetery.
