Mary Ellen Bilby, 98, of Washington, went home to be with her Lord Wednesday, January 13, 2010. She resided at Washington County Health Center in Chartiers Township.
Mrs. Bilby was born July 7, 1911, in Hundred, W.Va., a daughter of Beauregard and Lillian Toland Pierson.
She worked at Woolworth's department store and in the laundry department at Presbyterian SeniorCare.
Mrs. Bilby was a member of Broad Street Baptist Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Hawkins Post Home 927 Auxiliary.
She was her family's historian and enjoyed knitting and crocheting.
On March 17, 1928, she married William Marion Bilby, who died July 9, 2003.
Surviving are two sons, Robert (Norma) Bilby and Donald (Jeanie) Bilby, both of Washington; a daughter, Hilda Mae (Charles) Dicks of Ringgold, Ga.; a brother, Herman Pierson of Taylorstown; two sisters, Betty Bird and Jean Lindley, both of Washington; 10 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
Deceased are four brothers, Gardy, Fred, James and Clifford Pierson; four sisters, Goldie Durbin, Rosa Kenimond, Edith Smith and Bertie Moritz; and two sets of twins, who all died at birth.
Friends will be received from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, January 16, with Pastor Jay Freudenberg officiating. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery.
