Arthur Archie Dillard, 85, of Washington, died Sunday, December 24, 2006, in Washington Hospital, following a lengthy illness.
He was born February 7, 1921, in Washington, a son of Anderson and Rachel Miller Dillard.
Prior to being drafted into the Army, he worked at Washington and Jefferson College. From March 4, 1943, until February 14, 1946, he served in the Army as a Technician, fifth grade. He earned the American Theater Ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct Ribbon and World War II Victory Medal.
For more than thirty years, Mr. Dillard worked as a coal miner in West Virginia.
In 1947, he married Rose Chambers Dillard, who died in 1979.
Surviving are a brother, Gaylord Dillard of Washington; and a sister, Hope McClendon, of Washington.
Deceased are eight brothers, Paul E. Dillard, Donald Dillard, Merrill Dillard, Joseph Dillard, Clyde Dillard, Ellsworth Dilliard, Edgar Dillard and Neal Dillard; and one sister, Doris Walden.
Services were private. William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, handled the arrangements.
