McKinley John Thomas Slider
Founder and co-owner of The Dojo School of Aikido
McKinley John Thomas Slider, 69, of Washington, died Saturday, August 28, 2010, in UPMC-Mercy hospital, Pittsburgh.
He was born December 6, 1940, in Washington, a son of Wilbert Sr. and Martha Allen Slider.
Mr. Slider was a carpenter, retiring after 35 years. He also drove a school bus for GG&C.
He was founder and co-owner of The Dojo School of Aikido. He was involved in martial arts for more than 50 years.
His wife Nancy, whom he married January 26, 1985, survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Jason D. (Lucy) Slider and Michael D. (Jody) Slider Sr., both of Washington; a daughter, Pamela (Jeff) Skirble of Washington; two sisters, Henrietta Haskey of Washington and Helen Hill of Florida; seven grandchildren, Honesty Marie, Michael II, Mary, Carli, Jacob, Josh and Stephen; five stepgrandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased is a brother, Wilbert Slider Jr.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Monday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. Additional visitation will be held at the funeral home from 1 to 3 p.m., the hour of services, Tuesday, August 31, with Russ Crupe officiating. Burial will be held at a later date and at the convenience of the family.
