Alta Betty Mounts

Alta Betty Mounts, 85, of Scenery Hill, died Tuesday, July 13, 2010, in her residence, following a lengthy illness. She was born August 19, 1924, in Washington, a daughter of Samuel and Tessie Engle Patterson. Mrs. Mounts was a dietician at Mayview State Hospital for six years, and formerly worked at G.C. Murphy, Grants, Annealing Box, Federal Paper, and Hazel Atlas. Mrs. Mounts was a member of Hart Avenue Church of the Nazarene. She enjoyed doing crafts. On December 21, 1949, she married Howard L. Mounts, who died September 1976. Surviving are a daughter, Patty D. (John “Jack”) Lynn, with whom she made her home; a brother, Samuel M. Patterson, of Alexandria, Virginia; seven grandchildren, Sherry A. Gillispie, Joshua Holliday III, Rebecca L. Ross, Todd D. Mounts, Jr., Mark A. “Tony” Mounts, Michael Mounts, and John Lynn Jr.; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Deceased are two sons, Mark H. Mounts, and Todd D. Mounts, Sr.; two sisters, Mildred V. Moore and Tessie L. Magri; and an infant brother. Friends will be received Thursday, July 15, 2010, from 2 to 4 p.m., the hour of service, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, with Rev. James York officiating. Burial will be private and held at a later date.
