View video tributeGale (Junior) Stockdale, 73, of Bentleyville, died Friday, December 10, 2010, in his residence, after a brief battle with cancer.He was born on September 15, 1937, in Holbrook, PA, a son of the late Gale F., Sr. and Edna Henderson Stockdale.On November 9, 1960, he entered the U.S. Air Force, achieving the rank of Sergeant. He had 2 tours of duty in Germany. For his service, he was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal, with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster, the Air Force Good Conduct Medal, with 5 Oak Leaf Clusters, the Air Force Longevity Service Ribbon, with 4 Oak Leaf Clusters and the National Defense Service Medal. While in the service, Sergeant Stockdale worked in the communications department at the Pentagon and at SAC, the underground Strategic Air Command Headquarters in Nebraska. On November 30, 1980, he was honorably discharged after 20 years of service.He was Methodist.Mr. Stockdale worked at Quest Diagnostics for 14 years. He had previously worked at National Cash Register from 1980 until 1996.He enjoyed camping in his motor home, watching NASCAR, and spending time with his grandchildren.On May 2, 2002, he married Kaye Gaus, who survives.Also surviving are 3 sons, Michael "Doug" (Billie) White, of Washington; Mark (Mary Jo) Stockdale, of Omaha, NE, and Scott White, of Bentleyville; a stepson, Paul (Kim) Dearing, of West Alexander; a daughter, Vickie (Bud) White, of Houston, PA; a sister, Lucille Wallace, of St. Petersburg, FL; 9 grandchildren, Amber (Keith) Hillberry, Brody White, Scott Laipple, Lauren White, Michaela Stockdale, Wray (Michol) White, Jeremy Dearing, Justin (Darsell) Dearing, and Jessica Dearing; and several nieces and nephews, including, Renee Speeler, Robert Stockdale, Neita Mack and Linda McCurdy.Deceased are 2 brothers, Carl and George Raymond Stockdale.Friends will be received on Thursday, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8:00 p.m., at the William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Ave., Washington, PA 15301, where a service will be held on Friday, December 17, 2010, at 11:00 a.m., with Pastor Gary Gibson officiating.Burial will follow at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies.Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Care of the Washington Hospital, 155 Wilson Avenue, Washington, PA 15301.
