David Alvin Clayton, Sr., 80, of Avella, died Sunday, October 31, 2010, in Donnell House.
He was born July 9, 1930, in Wolfdale, a son of Albert D. Clayton, Sr. and Etta C. Haney Clayton.
Mr. Clayton was 1949 graduate of Trinity High School and worked for 35 years at Columbia Gas Company.
During the Korean War, he served with the Navy aboard the USS Chauncey and USS Forrest Royal. He was honorably discharged on June 8, 1955, as a Machinist�s Mate, second class.
He was a member of American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 and the former Allison Avenue Baptist Church. Mr. Clayton was also a member of The USS Kidd Association and attended his ship�s reunion every year.
He enjoyed taking care of his family.
On September 11, 1951, he married Lois Jean Miller, who died February 23, 2008.
Surviving are three sons, David A. Clayton, Jr. and Paul Wesley Clayton, both of Avella, and Matthew W. Clayton of Washington; one sister, Libby Baker of Phoenix, Arizona; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Deceased are two brothers, James and William; and two sisters, Wilda Guthrie and Priscilla Enoch.
Friends will be received Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, November 3rd, with Pastor Judy Mayer officiating. Burial will follow in Upper Buffalo Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Care of the Washington Hospital, 155 Wilson Avenue, Washington, PA 15301.
