Charles R. Hopkins, 76, of Washington, died Monday, November 1, 2010, in Breese's Personal Care Home. He was born May 25, 1934, in Washington, a son of Charles and Elizabeth Derr Hopkins. A 1953 graduate of Washington High School, Mr. Hopkins played on the 1952 Prexie Basketball Team that made it to the WPIAL finals. He served in the Army from June 9, 1955, until his honorable discharge on June 7, 1957, with a rank of Specialist, 3rd class. He was stationed at Ft. Bliss, Texas. In 1999, he retired from PennDot, where he was employed as a truck driver. In his younger years, he had worked for the City of Washington Street Department and also at Plasteel for many years. Mr. Hopkins was a member of VFW 191 and enjoyed spending time with his family, cooking breakfast, watching game shows, and following the Steelers. A most kind and caring person, he was always in a good mood and had a positive attitude about life. He will be remembered as a great father by his daughter, Rhonda. On March 4, 1969, he married Norma Jean Stewart Bradley, who died February 27, 1999. Surviving are three children, Rhonda J. (Keith) Boyd of Washington, Judith Jean (Al) Trapuzzano of Houston, and Ronald E. (Carolyn) Bradley of Franklin; seven grandchildren, Tammy (Mark) Nickolls, Kelly Klinefelter, Darcie Bradley, Ronald (Tiffany) Bradley II, Brian Boyd, Brynn Boyd, and Michelle Trapuzzano; six great-grandchildren, Raquel Nickolls, Alaina Nickolls, Cole Nickolls, Tyler Klinefelter, Zachary Klinefelter and Ronald Bradley III; and several nieces and nephews. Deceased is a sister, Joyce Bodnar. Family and friends are welcome to attend a service at 1 p.m., Wednesday, November 3rd, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, with Pastor Jay Freudenberg officiating. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded graveside by American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post 175.
