Charles Franklin Pettit, Sr., 76, of Avella, died Wednesday, July 1, 2009, in the Washington Hospital.
He was born April 6, 1933, in Greene County, a son of Charles R. and Elizabeth Huffman Pettit.
Mr. Pettit worked as a mechanic at Tri-State Engineering for 20 years and later at Porter Built. He was a member of SNPJ in Avella and American Legion Post #643 in Avella.
Mr. Pettit was Protestant.
In 1956, he married Lauretta Leona Yater, who died August 31, 2008.
Surviving are two sons, Charles F. Pettit, Jr., of Avella and Larry Pettit of Fairmont, West Virginia; two daughters, Betty (Michael) Ice of Fairmont, West Virginia and Freda (Gary) Flickner of Houston; two brothers, Terry Pettit of Washington and Danny Pettit of Prosperity; one sister, Leila J. Barnhart of Richeyville; 10 grandchildren, Michael, Linda, Mickey, Gary, Betty, Lauretta, Randy, Justin, Rachael and Larry; and nine great-grandchildren.
Deceased are a son, Robert L. Pettit, and a great-grandchild.
Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, July 6th, with Rev. Floyd Marasco officiating. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded graveside by Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 of the American Legion.
