Charles Barr

Charles Ralph "Jake" Barr, 77, of Washington, died Monday, July 6, 2009, in Washington Hospital. He was born December 14, 1931, in Wadestown, West Virginia, a son of Floyd Lee Barr, Sr., and Florence Mae Jackson Barr. Mr. Barr served in the United States Army from October 17, 1952, until his honorable discharge on September 27, 1954. He was assigned to Company B, 1279th Engineering Battalion in Germany, and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and Army of Occupation Medal � Germany. After discharge from the regular Army, Mr. Barr served in the Army Reserves until October 16, 1960. For 27 1/2 years, Mr. Barr worked as a foreman at Ply Craft in Conneaut, Ohio. He was a member of Moose #318, the Arden Club and a lifetime member of the former Eagles #687. Mr. Barr was a very devoted husband who enjoyed being with his family and grandchildren. He also enjoyed gardening. Mr. Barr was Methodist. On June 12, 1971, he married Melba Hope Davis, who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Charles Allen Barr of Finley, Ohio and Ralph Eugene (Susan) Barr of Clarksville, Tennessee; two daughters, Deanna (Mark) Greggory of Williamsburg, Virginia and Tina K. (Mike) Phillips of Clarksville, Tennessee; four step-children Kenneth (Sherry) Flynn of Wernersville, Patrick Michael (Lori) Flynn of Washington, Deborah (Charles) Lazear of Marianna and Gwen (Charles) Gongoware of Washington; one brother, Billy Joe (Barb) Barr of Washington; two sisters, Alfreda (Albert) Mercer and Sue (Gary) Hulbert, both of Washington; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Deceased are three sisters, Betty McCoy, Mary Ann Barr and Patty Sloneker; and a brother, Floyd Barr, Jr. Friends will be received Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 9 till 11 a.m., the hour of service, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 395 East Maiden Street, Washington, with Rev. Thomas P. Bellhy officiating. Burial will follow in North Ten Mile Baptist Church Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded graveside by Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 of the American Legion.
