F. Monty Lyon, 66, of Washington, died Thursday, July 9, 2009, in his residence, following a lengthy illness.
He was born January 29, 1943, in Pontiac, Michigan, a son of Marjorie W. Collings Lyon of Mancelona, Michigan, and the late Albert Earl Lyon.
Mr. Lyon graduated from Michigan Technological University in 1966 with a Bachelor of Science degree in metallurgical engineering followed by a Master of Science degree in metallurgical engineering in 1968.
In 2009, he retired from FLSmidth, Inc. USA in Bethlehem, where he was a senior project engineer in the crushing division. He started his professional career working in the research department of Bethlehem Steel, in Bethlehem, followed by Bethlehem Mines in Charleston, West Virginia. During his career, he also worked for Republic Steel in Uniontown, Lykes Resources in Peters Township and the Advanced Fuels Technologies unit of BP America in Cleveland, Ohio.
On January 30, 1965, he married Carol Marie Hart, who survives, of State College.
Surviving in addition to his wife and mother are two sons, Richard D. Lyon of State College and Michael J. Lyon of Washington; four sisters, Nola Hayes (Larry – deceased), of Rapid City, Michigan, Loetta Hamp (Lynn), Nan Hershberger (Mitch) and Lynne Anger (Al – deceased) all of Mancelona, Michigan; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. Private burial will be held in Michigan. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
