Ruth Evelyn Verno Grandel, 85, of Washington, died Friday, July 10, 2009, at Hawthorne Woods
She was born February 13, 1924, in Washington, PA, a daughter of Thomas and Ida M. Marraccinni Verno.
Mrs. Grandel worked as a Nurse’s Aid at the Washington Hospital for 25 years, and also had worked part-time as a waitress at the George Washington Hotel.
She was Protestant by faith.
Mrs. Grandel was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
She enjoyed candle-making, traveling, hummingbirds and reading. She was a great Steelers and Pirates fan, and enjoyed watching Tiger Woods. Mrs. Grandel was a hospital volunteer for about 5 years.
On July 5, 1943, she married Billy B. Grandel, who died on March 24, 2002
Surviving are 2 sons, Ronald D. (Lisa) Grandel, of Scotland, PA and Jerry L. (Patti) Grandel, of Colorado Springs, Colorado; a brother, Wayne (Diane) Verno, of Washington; a granddaughter, Kimberly Lerman, of Allentown, NJ; 2 step grand daughters, Priscilla Hurley, of Plainfield, NJ and Sabrina Hurley, of Mont Alto, PA; and 2 great grandsons, William and Matthew Lerman, both of Allentown, PA.
Friends will be received Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m., in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 395 East Maiden Street, Washington, where services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 15, 2009. Entombment will follow in the Washington Cemetery Mausoleum.
