Charles Merle Watson, Sr.

Charles Merle Watson, Sr., 70, of Claysville, died unexpectedly, Tuesday, July 7, 2009, in the Washington Hospital. He was born January 20, 1939, in Grafton, West Virginia, a son of the late Charles Morgan and Martha Roseanna Cox Watson. Mr. Watson spent many years employed as a construction worker, working at the Observer-Reporter, and farming. He retired from Jessop Steel after 25 years of service. He enjoyed spending time with family and caring for his grandson, Matthew. Mr. Watson was a member of Christian Church of North America. On November 22, 1956, he married Jacqueline "Jackie" Julian, who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Charles Merle (Kathy) Watson Jr. and Jeff (Lynn) Watson, both of Claysville; a sister, Minnie Fawcett of Grafton, West Virginia; and a grandchild, Matthew Julian Watson. Deceased are three brothers, Lewis, Carl and Dorsey Watson; and two sisters, Elva Compton and Mary "Lillian" Roach. Friends will be received Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, July 10th. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery.
