Grace Bungard Nowlin, 95, of Washington, died Saturday, March 10, 2007, in her home.
She was born July 3, 1911, in Lone Pine, a daughter of the late Madge Gantz and
C. Preston Hatfield.
Mrs. Nowlin was a member of Fairhill Manor Christian Church and the church’s C.W.F.
She belonged to the Washington Senior Citizens, where she was a volunteer, formerly belonged to the Pittsburgh Iris and Day Lily Society, the Wheeling Ogelbay Civic Garden Center, the Eastern Star #409 of Washington and the Washington AARP.
Mrs. Nowlin worked at G.C. Murphy Store on Main Street for more than twenty years. She loved to read and crochet and when younger, loved to garden, tend to flowers and travel.
She was twice married. On October 30, 1929, she married George D. Bungard, Sr., who died December 21, 1970. On May 17, 1975, she married Maurice C. Nowlin, who died March 1, 1992.
Surviving are a son, George Dewey Bungard Jr., and his wife, Mary Margaret, of Washington; two daughters, Ruth Evans, wife of Harry Evans, Sr., of near Fredericktown, residing in Scottsdale, AZ, in the winter, and Joanne Lederhos, wife of Norbert Lederhos, of Bailey, CO., two step children, James Nowlin, of West Chester and Susan Sawyer, of Avella; six grandchildren, Diana Yurkovich, Harry Evans, Jr., Eric Myers, Sonya Downes, Signe Hoven, and Rebecca Nowlin Green; nine great grandchildren, several step grandchildren, several step great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are two sisters, Irene Florian and Dorothy Martin, and a brother, Lawrence (Bud) Hatfield.
She is the last of her immediate family.
Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., Thursday, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 16, 2007, at Fairhill Manor Christian Church, 351 Montgomery Avenue, Washington, with the Rev. Dr. David Mansfield officiating.
