Dora (Jeannie) Martin McGowan, 80, of Washington, died Friday, May 2, 2008, in Canonsburg Hospital, following a brief illness.
She was born October 27, 1927, in Washington, a daughter of Ralph and Gertrude Eden Martin.
Mrs. McGowan graduated from Trinity High School in 1945. She worked for 21 years as a teller for Mellon Bank in the Washington and Tylerdale offices. Mrs. McGowan then worked for 13 years at Dillie Motor Freight.
She was a member of Church of the Covenant, Martha V. Paul #404 Order of Eastern Star, American Legion #175 Ladies Auxiliary, Women of the Moose #22, Alpine Club, Washington Elks #776, Washington Numastic Coin Club and Wednesday Night Alpine Bowling League. Her hobbies included playing bingo and listening to country music.
On April 10, 1949, she married Earsel McGowan, Jr., who died April 28, 1986.
Surviving are a son, David L. (Brenda J.) McGowan of Washington; a daughter, Barbara A. McGowan Berry of Washington; four grandchildren, Brea McGowan (Erik) DaPra, Floyd V. Berry, Jr., Jonathan L. (Amy) Berry and Misti (Matt) Kolovich; six great-grandchildren, Erik DaPra, Jr., Jonathan L. Berry, Jr., Aubri DaPra, Carena DaPra, David S. Gill-Berry and Kaitlyn A. Berry; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased is a brother, John W. Martin.
Friends will be received 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9p.m. Sunday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 395 East Maiden Street, Washington, where services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, May 5th. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery.
