Member of Liberty UM Church for more than 80 years. Lena Margaret Johnson, 96, of Washington, formerly of Vankirk Station and Pleasant Grove, died at 1 p.m. Tuesday, September 28, 2004, in Washington County Health Center, Washington, following a monthlong illness. She was born March 18, 1908, in Laboratory, a daughter of Emil and Mamie Crowley Wurtzer. Mrs. Johnson was a member of Liberty United Methodist Church for more than 80 years. She played the piano in church and enjoyed music. She had been a waitress at several Washington-area restaurants, including The George Washington hotel, Howard Johnsons and Scotty's. Her husband, Harold W. Johnson Sr., died June 9, 1987. Surviving are two sons, Harold W. (Sam) Johnson Jr. and wife Barbara of Washington and Clyde R. Johnson and wife Marlyn of Claysville; three daughters, Margaret Ptaszek and husband Edward of Weirton, W.Va., and Hazel Crawford and Shirley Taylor and husband Jack, all of Washington; a niece, Mariam Moore of Gettysburg; 17 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.Deceased is a brother, Robert Wurtzer.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 395 East Maiden Street, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, October 1, with the Rev. Larry Wiltrout officiating. Interment in Washington Cemetery.
