Laura K. Closser, 92, of Washington, died at 4:54 a.m. Monday, February 6, 2006, in Washington Hospital following a one-day illness. She was born September 28, 1913, in Groveton, a daughter of Walter McClain and Matilda Elizabeth Powers Kennedy. Mrs. Closser was a graduate of Ambridge High School and a member of Fourth Presbyterian Church in Washington. She was employed in the engineering department of Bell Telephone Co. for 33 years. Mrs. Closser was a member of Rebekah Lodge of Coraopolis, Quilters Guild, Bell Telephone Pioneers, Canton Township Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary and Edwin Scott Linton American Legion Post 175 Auxiliary. She was a Cub Scout leader and band parent, bowled at Route 19 Bowl and Alpine Bowling Lanes and volunteered at Washington Senior Citizens where she taught ceramics. She and her husband started a junior fire department and volunteered at teenage dances. On July 31, 1948, she married Harold Horn Closser, who died January 31, 2003. Surviving are a son, William K. Closser of Claysville; a daughter, Judy Closser (Robert) Allen of Columbia, S.C.; a brother, John Gilbert Kennedy of Crescent; four grandchildren, Jimmy and Glenn Allen, Jeremy and Jessica Closser; a great-grandson, Blake Allen; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews. Deceased are two sisters, Patricia Kennedy and Margie Inglefield; and a brother, Walter Kennedy Jr.
Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, February 9, with the Rev. Susan VandeKappelle officiating. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery.
