Rose Goodwin Donkin

Rose Goodwin (Goodie) Holloman Donkin, 81, formerly of Washington, died Sunday, October 31, 2004, in Anderson Personal Care Home, West Finley, following a lengthy illness. She was born in Ahoskie, North Carolina on May 23, 1923, a daughter of Thaddeus Wingate and Olivia Leigh Hedgspeth Holloman. She was a graduate of Chowan College (4 generations of women in her family had attended this College) ,and had worked for the United States Navy for 3 years prior to moving to Pennsylvania. On July 21, 1945 she married Billy Richard (Bill) Donkin who is deceased. Later she worked as a secretary at Washington Hospital for 30 years prior to retiring. She was a member of the Abundant Life Baptist Church. Surviving are two sons, Edward Donkin of Washington and Bill Donkin of Daytona Beach, Florida; a daughter Anna Leigh Courson of Marietta, Ohio; a brother Lyndon Earl Holloman and his wife Betty of Williamsburg, Virginia; seven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Friends of Rose H. "Goodie" Donkin, 81, formerly of Washington, will be received on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm in the William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Ave., where services will be held on Thursday, November 4, 2004 at 11:00 am with Rick Bruckner officiating. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery.
