Alice Irene Schrader Smith, 78, of Washington, died on Sunday, August 22, 2004 in the Washington Hospital following a two year illness. She was born in Washington on March 28, 1926, a daughter of John Henry and Alta Ewing Schrader. She was a 1944 graduate of Washington High School and had once worked at Hazel Atlas as a packer. She was a member of West Washington United Methodist Church, a former member of Lady Hoag Rebecca Lodge, and enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family.
On January 10, 1948, she married Charles E. Smith, Sr., who survives. Also surviving are three sons, William and Bruce Smith, both of Washington, and Charles E. Smith, Jr., of Beeville, Texas; two daughters, Debra A. Smith and Karen A. Kopnitsky, both of Washington; nine grandchildren, Tara and Amanda Kopnitsky, Travis, Meghan, Jared, and Trevor Smith, Charles E. Smith III, Courtney and Aaron Smith; and two great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by a sister Gertrude Schrader and a brother John A. Schrader.
Friends of Alice Irene Schrader Smith, 78, of Washington, will be received on Monday from 7 to 9 pm and Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm in the William G. Neal Funeral Homes, 925 Allison Avenue, where services will be held on Wednesday, August 25, 2004, at 11:00 am, Rev. Keith Loar officiating. Interment will follow in the Washington Cemetery.
