Gertrude Nichols

Gertrude Nichols, 103, died Thursday, June 19, 2008, in Country Meadows Nursing Home, Bridgeville. She was born July 16, 1904, in Mill Run, Fayette County, a daughter of Ross V. and Mary Eliza Cox Marietta. Mrs. Nichols was a 1922 graduate of Connellsville High School. For 34 years, she was an accountant with the FDIC, and also worked for five years at Union National Bank in Connellsville. In 1969, she joined Fourth Presbyterian Church. Surviving are a son, John “Bill” (Ree) Nichols of Washington; three grandchildren, Kathy L. Rae, Kimberly A. Durkin and Bill Nichols; six great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Deceased are two brothers, Harold C. and Robert J. Marietta; and four sisters, Hazel M. Whipkey, Lenora Fleming, Olive M. Marietta, and Violet M. “Billie” Burke. Friends will be received Sunday, June 22nd, from 2 to 4 p.m., the hour of service, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington.
