Leru Herron Mccloskey

Active Fourth Presbyterian Church member Leru Herron McCloskey, 77, of Washington, died Saturday, July 11, 2009, in Donnell House, Washington, following a brief illness. She was born August 7, 1931, in Washington, a daughter of Harry G. and Hazel Hite Herron. Mrs. McCloskey graduated as valedictorian of the Class of 1949 from Chartiers High School. She also attended Penn Commercial Business School. She was employed as secretary-treasurer by Best Feeds Inc., in Oakdale, for 46 years, retiring in 1997 as its first woman officer. Mrs. McCloskey was a member of Fourth Presbyterian Church of Washington, where she had been a deacon, an elder, controller and ladies aid president. She was former clerk of sessions and taught Sunday school. She was a member of Lady Hogue Rebekah Lodge 102 of Washington, where she had been noble grand and financial secretary. On January 18, 1975, in Wellsburg, W.Va., she married William E. McCloskey, who died November 28, 1998. Surviving are three nieces, Derenda (Anthony) Zawodniak of Pittsburgh, Jamie (Mark) Podolek of Washington and Crystal (David) Bodziak of Mechanicsville, Md. In addition to her husband, a son, J. Timothy Harris, and a sister, Nova Lee Miller, are deceased. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 14, with Pastor Alyce Curry officiating. Burial will follow in Emmanuel United Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
