West Finley farmer enjoyed hunting and playing baseball Michael Lewis Kanotz, 93, of West Finley, died at 1:15 p.m. Tuesday, December 23, 2003, in Washington County Health Center, Washington. He had been ill since August 12. He was born October 7, 1910, in Cuddy, a son of Stephen and Esther Bankey Kanotz. Mr. Kanotz was a coal miner and worked for Hillman Coal and Coke Co. before becoming disabled in April 1951. He then worked his own farm. He was a member of United Mine Workers of America Local 4917 of Washington. Mr. Kanotz enjoyed hunting, particularly coon hunting, and playing baseball. On August 24, 1935, he married Margaret Irene (Peg) Miller, who died October 11, 2001. Surviving are three sons, Michael L. Kanotz of Nicholasville, Ky., Robert Kanotz of Bethel Park and A. Scott Kanotz of Canonsburg; two daughters, Terry Kilgore of Claysville and Linda Hainer of Washington; a sister, Ella Atkinson of Centerline, Mich.; 10 grandchildren, Jackie Vincent, Shannon Davis, Nikki Bankowski, Clayton Kilgore, and Robert Jr., Christine, Brian, Ashley, Scotty and Steven Kanotz; and seven great-grandchildren. Deceased are a daughter, Virginia Kanotz; a brother, Stephen Kanotz; two sisters, Emma Kanotz and Elizabeth Sickel; and a great-grandson. KANOTZ - Friends of Michael Lewis Kanotz of West Finley, who died Tuesday, December 23, 2003, will be received from 1 to 9 p.m. Friday and from noon to 1:30 p.m. the hour of service, Saturday, December 27, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, with the Rev. Jeffrey Gauvin officiating. Interment will follow in Melrose Cemetery, Bridgeville.
