John Toth, Sr.

John George "Greenie" Toth, Sr., 81, of Washington, died unexpectedly, Wednesday, July 15, 2009, in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh. He was born February 23, 1928, in Canonsburg, a son of Steven and Emma Karpy Toth. Mr. Toth attended Penn Tech in Pittsburgh. For over 50 years, he owned and operated Toth TV Repair. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church and a volunteer at The Washington Hospital. Mr. Toth enjoyed talking to others, studying about natural health and reading. He especially enjoyed watching his grandchildren's sporting events and watching the Steelers and Penguins. Mr. Toth was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served during World War II and the Korean Conflict. On February 3, 1951, he married Teresa Mae Comito, who died August 6, 2007. Surviving are a son, John G. (Jennifer) Toth, Jr., of Springfield, Ohio; two daughters, Terri (Dan) Michael of Washington and Joni (Reese) Slater of Wheeling, West Virginia; a brother, Edward Toth of Canonsburg; three sisters, Helen Micik and Margaret Gromacki, both of Canonsburg, and Barbara Bodvake of New York; seven grandchildren, Eric (Maggi) Michael, Andrew, Scott, Carly and Kristen Slater, and Christopher and Kaitlin Toth; and many nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind Emily, whom he helped care for when she was younger. Deceased are five brothers, Frank, Steven, Bob, James and Albert Toth; and three sisters, Mary, Katherine and Agnes. Friends will be received 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:45 a.m., Saturday, July 18th, in Immaculate Conception Church, with Father Nicholas Spirko as celebrant. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded graveside by Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 of the American Legion.
