Dorothy Ann (D.A.) Truby

Dorothy Ann (D.A.) Truby, 78, of Thomas Campbell Apartments, Washington, died Thursday, October 16, 2008, in Washington County Health Center, following a brief illness. She was born February 8, 1930, in Washington, a daughter of T.W. and Grace Pendleton Long. Mrs. Truby graduated from Washington High School in 1947, and worked in retail as an office clerk for thirty-five years. She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church and of the Altar Guild at the church. Mrs. Truby was a Girl Scout leader, a volunteer at Thomas Campbell Apartments, was an active Republican, and enjoyed doing crafts. For over eight years, Mrs. Truby sponsored Vincent Nkurikiyinka of Rwanda, through the World Vision Program. In 1950 she married George F. Sharp. They divorced in 1967. On June 25, 1973 she married Paul E. Truby who died September 9, 1991. Surviving are a daughter, Susan E. Patterson, of Washington; a very special daughter-in-law, Cathy, and her husband Ed Hartner; four grandchildren, Preston Patterson, of Washington, Hilary Patterson, of Virginia, Ryan Truby, of Washington, and Justin (Kim) Truby, of Maryland, a Washington, D.C. police sergeant; and three great grandchildren, Madison, Alexander and Emma Truby. Friends will be received 7 to 9 p.m., Friday, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, where services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 18, 2008, with the Rev. Karen Stevenson officiating. Interment will follow in Washington Cemetery.
