Ralph R. Clemens, 80, of Washington, died Thursday, September 11, 2008, in Washington County Health Center.
He was born January 13, 1928, in Coon Island, West Virginia, a son of Alva Lewis and Etta Mae Lindley Clemens.
On March 29, 1946, Mr. Clemens joined the United States Army, serving until his honorable discharge as a Private First Class on September 22, 1947. He was awarded the World War II Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal –Japan.
Mr. Clemens was a truck driver for Beatty Trucking and had also worked as a mechanic for Suwak Trucking for many years.
He was a member of Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 of the American Legion, the Taylorstown American Legion, and the Jessop Club.
Surviving are a son, Ralph Ray (Barb) Clemens of Amity.
Also surviving are Francis (Gwen) Harrison of Florida, Betty (David) Dugan of Burgettstown, Irene Robison of Avella, and Carolyn Thomas of Florida; a sister, Thelma “Sis” Hamel of Claysville; 12 grandchildren, Thomas Prowitt, Ralph Jr., Jonathan, David James, Jaclyn, Jamie, Ralph, William, Charles, Lisa, Francisann and Shane; 15 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews, including J.R.
Deceased are two sisters, Elsie Beatty and Alverna Clemens; and three brothers, Robert, Floyd, and Lloyd Clemens.
Friends will be received 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, September 15th, with Rev. Floyd Marasco officiating. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery. Miliatry rites will be accorded graveside by Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 of the American Legion.
