Julia P. Malik, 85, of Washington, died Wednesday, June 17, 2009, in Hawthorne Woods, South Strabane Township. She had been ill for over five years.
She was born December 31, 1923, in Washington, a daughter of John and Anna Soyka Petrola.
Mrs. Malik retired from J. C. Penney Company, after twenty years of service, as a catalog associate. She formerly worked as a packer-selector at Hazel Atlas #2.
She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church; and a former member and founder of the Women's Auxiliary of Canton Township Fire Department.
Mrs. Malik enjoyed gardening, bowling, crocheting, playing cards and bingo.
On February 1, 1947, she married John Joseph Malik, who died May 28, 2008.
Surviving are two daughters, Mary Ann (Alfred W.) Friend, and Joan L. (James) Warren, both of Washington; two sisters, Catherine Ammon, of Canonsburg, and Mildred Nakoneczny, of Houston; three grandchildren, Melissa (Robert) Hook, Justin (Dawn Marie) Friend, and Michael (Lindsey) Warren; three great grandchildren, Matthew Hook, Zachary Hook and Parker Friend.
Deceased are four brothers, John, William Andrew, James, and Michael Petrola; and two sisters, Anna Chastulik and Mary Petrola.
Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 20, 2009, in Immaculate Conception Church, 119 W. Chestnut Street, Washington. Entombment will follow in St. James Mausoleum, Immaculate Conception Cemetery.
