WWII vet was American Legion, VFW member.
Robert Sheldon Shipe, 88, of Uniontown, formerly of Washington, died Sunday, November 30, 2008, in Uniontown Hospital.
He was born October 18, 1920, in Amwell Township, a son of Sheldon George and Cora Belle McQuay Shipe.
Mr. Shipe served in the U.S. Army during World War II from November 30, 1942, until his honorable discharge December 1, 1944. He was wounded in the Battle of Normandy (France) and received the Purple Heart for his injuries. Mr. Shipe also was awarded a Good Conduct Medal and European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal.
He was a member of American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Surviving are two sons, Mark and Sheldon; three daughters, Linda, Karen and Connie; a brother, William Shipe; two sisters, Helen Miles and Lulu Bedillion; eight grandchildren; and two great-granddaughters.
Deceased are a daughter, Laurel Shipe; a brother, Donald Shipe; and a sister, Peg Conkel.
At the request of the deceased, there will be no public visitation or services. William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, is in charge of arrangements.
