Evelyn Louise Huggins, 83, of Washington, formerly of Marianna, died Tuesday, August 18, 2009, in The Washington Hospital, following a brief illness.
She was born February 7, 1926, in Marianna, a daughter of the late Eli G. Moore, Sr. and Cora Ames Moore.
Mrs. Huggins was a member of Zollarsville Chapel United Methodist Church, Marianna. She was a homemaker and former employee of J.C. Penney�s.
Mrs. Huggins enjoyed sewing, quilting for family and friends, reading, canning and traveling to Amish Country. She loved spending time with all of her family, especially at Christmas when everyone would meet on Christmas Eve at her home.
She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
On February 7, 1975, she married Walter Richard Huggins, who survives.
Also surviving are four children, Charles G. (Sandra) Moore of Nokomis, Florida, Carolyn (Thomas) Hughes of Washington, Raymond M. (Patricia) Platts of Scenery Hill and Henry Thomas (Sherrill) Platts of Pittsburgh; a step-daughter, Karen Huggins of Washington; seven grandchildren, Robert, Chad and Christopher Hughes, Michele James, Derick Moore, Mark Platts and Raymond Platts, Jr.; 10 great- grandchildren, Michael, Justin, Emily, Alyson and Jake Hughes, Isabelle and Robert James, Olivia and William Moore and Lilah Rae Platts; two step great-grandchildren, Ilene and Christine; two sisters, JoAnn Kubichar and Esther Bates, both of Lone Pine; two brothers, Eli Moore, Jr. and William Moore, both of Marianna; a sister-in-law, Roberta Bannister of Washington; an aunt, Eva McCullough of Marianna; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are her first husband, Melvin R. Platts, who died in 1958; her second husband, William L. Stephens, who died in 1974; and a sister, Ruth Ross.
Friends will be received Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 22nd, with Rev. Dr. Kenneth Schott officiating.
