Delbert Dean White, 62, of Claysville, died Thursday, August 20, 2009, in his residence, following a two-year illness.
He was born March 28, 1947, in Washington, a son of Charles Robert and Ellen Longstreath White.
On June 16, 1966, Mr. White was inducted into the United States Army. He served under the Army’s Pacific Command and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal and a Marksman (Rifle) Badge. He was discharged from active duty on June 14, 1968, as a Specialist, fifth grade.
Mr. White worked as a foreman and batchman at Judson Wylie and Sons for 30 years and was a member of James R. Hunt Post 639 of the American Legion.
He enjoyed farming, hunting, going to the beach at Ocean City, and spending time with his family.
Mr. White was Baptist.
On September 20, 1968, he married Judy Ann Thomas, who survives.
Also surviving are a son, Thomas, of Prosperity; a daughter, Deanna, of Taylorstown; three brothers, John “Bill” White of Claysville, Paul White of Washington and Donald White of Claysville; two sisters, Carol Camp of Claysville and Mary Jane Martin of Washington; and two grandchildren, Margo and Westin.
Deceased are a sister, Jean Sprowls; two brothers, Melvin Leroy White and Wray Gordon White; and two half brothers, Robert White and Bill White.
Friends will be received on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, August 24th, with Rev. Rick Bruckner officiating. Burial will follow in Claysville Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded graveside by James R. Hunt Post 639 of the American Legion. Memorial contributions may be made to Friendship Community Church, 354 Weirich Avenue, Washington PA 15301.
