Charlotte Elizabeth “Betty” Closser, 91, a life-long resident of Buffalo Township, died Saturday, December 6, 2008, in Donnell House.
She was born August 25, 1917, in Buffalo Township, a daughter of the late John and Mary Bell Burk Winters.
Mrs. Closser attended Trinity Schools. On June 12, 1935, she married Earl L. Closser, who died August 4, 2000.
She was a homemaker and had once worked at Howard Johnson’s.
Mrs. Closser looked forward to visits from her neighbors and took great delight in spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who affectionately knew her as “G.G.” She was a very loving and caring mother who always put her children first. She was also very devoted to her dogs.
Mrs. Closser was a member of East Buffalo Presbyterian Church and Buffalo Grange 1523. She enjoyed bowling with the Route 19 Senior Citizens League and solving crossword puzzles. She was a great ceramic painter and made the best homemade bread and cinnamon rolls.
Surviving are seven children, Richard L. (Delores) Closser of Washington, Earl W. Closser of Jeanette, Kathryn E. (Vaughn) Hixenbaugh of Avella, James A. (Patti) Closser of Tecumseh, Michigan, George H. Closser (Belletta Haught) of Coal Center, Mary A. Swan of Claysville and Danny R. (Armida) Closser of Palmdale, California; 18 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was the last of her immediate family. Preceding her in death, in addition to her husband, were sisters, Mary Moore, Harriett Winters, Kathleen Boyle, and Alvena Jones, as well as two sisters who died in infancy; two brothers, Henry Winters and George Winters; and two great-grandchildren, Anthony Closser and James Rich, II.
Friends will be received Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will held at 11 a.m. Wednesday December 10, with Rev. Linda Mankey officiating. Burial will follow in Claysville Cemetery.
