Michael Kerecman, 89, of Washington, passed away peacefully in his home on Wednesday, August 26, 2009.
He was born October 23, 1919, in Ramsey, Michigan.
Michael retired from the coal mining industry at the age of 55, allowing him to enjoy retirement by traveling around the country, visiting family and friends, working on cars and machines.
Michael was a parishioner of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and longtime member of the Elks, Moose and American Legion.
His wife, Ina, and daughter, Gayle A. Matrunics, preceded Michael in death.
Surviving are a son, Greg Kerecman, three grandchildren, Heather Scanlon, Heidi Metz and Jack Cole; seven great grandchildren, Joshua, Zachary, Breanna, Patrick, Morgan, Alexis and Ashley; and a brother, Alex Kerecman, of Superior, Wisconsin.
Also surviving is his loving companion and friend, Rose Kompier.
Friends will be received from noon to 2:30 p.m., the hour of the Blessing Service, Saturday, August 29, 2009 in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 395 E. Maiden Street, Washington. Burial will be in Negaunee Cemetery, Negaunee, Michigan.
