Henry W. Wagers, 77, of Washington, died Friday, September 18, 2009, in the Washington Hospital, due to lung cancer.
He was born September 29, 1931, in Washington, a son of the late John Henry and Ethel Clara Hague Wagers.
From November 17, 1949, until November 16, 1957, he served in the Navy Reserves.
Mr. Wagers worked at Tygart Valley Glass for 17 years, followed by Brockway Glass, and then retired from Cooper Industries after 25 years of service. He was also employed by William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd. for over 40 years.
Mr. Wagers was a member of Faith United Presbyterian Church, Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 of the American Legion, and the Alpine Club.
He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, surf fishing at Cape Hatteras, North Carolina, playing dart ball with the church, and bowling at the Alpine, where he was a league bowler on Thursday nights.
On October 30, 1949, he married Betty Lou Smith, who survives. They would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in October.
Also surviving are three children, Linda (Ed) Paul of Washington, Nancy (John) Baumgartner of Wellsburg, West Virginia, and Robert (Kim) Wagers of Washington; a sister, Ethel (Jim) Jacobs of Moon Township; nine grandchildren, Nichole, Eddie, Christina, Jennifer, Steffanie, Nathan, Ashley, Amy and April; four great-grandchildren, Amber, Gwen, Melena and Taydum; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are his twin brother, John Leonard Wagers; and a son, David L. Wagers.
He also leaves behind his co-workers at Neal Funeral Home, who will miss him very much.
Friends will be received Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 22nd, with Rev. Edward R. DeLair, Jr., officiating. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery.
