Berthamae Elizabeth Hessler, 93, of Washington, died Monday, September 21, 2009, in her residence.
She was born October 14, 1915, in Pittsburgh, a daughter of William and Myrtle Welsh Scholten.
Mrs. Hessler graduated from Washington High School in 1934. From 1936 until 1945, she was a supervisor for Bell Telephone. After the Meadows Racetrack opened, she worked as a telephone operator for the racetrack and lastly as a telephone receptionist for National City.
On April 23, 1944, she married Earl Joseph Hessler, who died in 1970.
Surviving are two sons, Kirk (Joyce) Hessler of Washington and Robert (Melissa) Hessler of Chambersburg; a sister, Myrtle Fisher; four grandchildren, Jason Hessler, Hedi (Jay) Danielski, Kara (Steve) Schoessler and Morgan Hessler; three great-grandchildren; and a cousin, Thelma Sonntag.
Deceased is a brother, Bill Scholten, who died in infancy.
Friends will be received from 9 till 11 a.m., the hour of service, Friday, September 25th, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, with Rev. Dr. Kenneth Schott officiating. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery.
