Mont W. Mankey, 94, of Washington, died Tuesday, December 23, 2008, in the Washington Hospital.
He was born September 2, 1914, in Greene County, a son of Lindsey and Icie Mankey.
Mr. Mankey was inducted into the United States Navy on June 27, 1944, and was discharged January 1, 1946. During his naval service, he earned the European Theater Ribbon, American Theater Ribbon and the World War II Victory Medal.
Mr. Mankey was employed by Jessop Steel, retiring from the electric furnace department after 35 years of service.
He was a life member of Claysville American Legion and enjoyed woodworking, yard work and fishing.
On February 2, 1940, he married Helen Irene Mankey, who died April 12, 1978.
Surviving are a daughter, Karen (Terry) Weaver of Morristown, New Jersey; two grandchildren, Brent Weaver of Morristown, New Jersey, and Scott (Christine) Weaver of Hopatcong, New Jersey; and two great-grandchildren, Morgan and Nicholas Weaver.
He is also survived by his long-time companion, Nora Calvert, of Washington.
Deceased are three sisters.
Friends will be received 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 395 East Maiden Street, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, December 29th. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Gardens, McMurray. There will be no visitation on Sunday.
