Barbara McCrerey Claypoole, 68, of Washington, died Wednesday, January 28, 2009, in her residence, following a lengthy illness.
She was born September 29, 1940, in Buffalo Village, a daughter of Walter I. and Margaret McElroy McCrerey.
Mrs. Claypoole graduated from Trinity in 1958 and from University of Pittsburgh in 1975. She was an elementary school teacher in Avella School District for 23 years.
Mrs. Claypoole enjoyed knitting, solving word search problems, and fishing for walleye. She not only enjoyed collecting lighthouses, but also enjoyed traveling to lighthouses.
Mrs. Claypoole was Protestant.
On June 9, 1990, she married Carl “Whistle” Claypoole, who survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Cameron W. (Ajira Darch) Sharp of El Cerrito, California, and Cpt. John (Donna) Walker of Ft. Bliss, Texas; a sister, Elizabeth Hamilton of Washington; two grandchildren, Tanner and Jack Walker; two nieces; and one nephew.
Deceased are three brothers, Robert W. McCrerey, James D. McCrerey and Richard L. McCrerey, who died in infancy.
Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Monday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, February 3rd, with Rev. Floyd Marasco officiating. Burial will follow in Upper Buffalo Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Albert Gallatin Hospice, 275 Meadowlands Boulevard, Washington PA 15301.
