Edward Charles Bissett, 53, of Hickory, passed away Tuesday, February 17, 2009, in Donnell House, after a courageous battle with metastatic kidney cancer.
He was born February 21, 1955, in Washington, a son of Nellie Jane Brown Bissett of Hickory and the late Howard Paul Bissett, Sr.
Mr. Bissett was a 1974 graduate of Fort Cherry High School. For 27 years, he was employed at Washington Penn Plastics.
He enjoyed farming, animals, the outdoors, and, most of all, life.
Mr. Bissett was a man of hope, courage and determination.
He leaves behind his devoted wife, Rita E. Deveso Bissett, whom he married April 22, 1980, and their three canine companions, Shadow, Simon and Spencer.
Also surviving, in addition to his wife and mother, are two brothers, Howard Paul (Sally) Bissett, Jr. of Houston and Robert (Diana) Bissett of Hickory; a sister, Jane (Rich) Lucas of Hickory; his father-in-law, Frank (Ronnie) Deveso of Hamburg, New York; brothers-in-law, William C. Ullom, Jr. of Hickory and Gary Deveso of Hamburg, New York; sister-in-law, Laurie (Mike) Manning of Hamburg; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, aunts, uncles and good friends.
Deceased, in addition to his father, are a sister, Lois Ullom; mother-in-law, Georgina Deveso; and brother-in-law, John Deveso.
Friends and family will be received 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 395 East Maiden Street, Washington, where services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, February 20th. Burial will follow in Mt. Prospect Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Sonni Fund, Angel Ridge Animal Rescue, 390 Old Hickory Ridge Road, Washington, PA 15301
