James Neil Horne, 74, of Washington, died Monday, February 16, 2009, in his home.
He was born May 30, 1934, in Washington, a son of Mary Iva Rafferty Horne McMillen.
On June 12, 1952, he entered the U.S. Navy, serving during the Korean Conflict in the European Theater. He received the European Occupational Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and National Defense Service Ribbon. He was honorably discharged June 5, 1956.
Mr. Horne attended Immaculate Conception Schools and was a member of Immaculate Conception Church.
For thirty-two years, Mr. Horne was a laborer at Molycorp, Inc., in Washington, where he was president of the Steelworkers Union. He was also a self-employed barber.
He was a war history buff, and enjoyed bowling, softball and all sports in general.
Mr. Horne was a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign War.
On August 5, 1955, he married Barbara Ann Wheeler, who survives.
Also surviving are five children, James J. (Sue) Horne and Debra (Stephen) Paluda, both of Washington, Kimberly Sue Horne, of Marianna, Mickey L. (Kelly) Horne, Sr. and Shawn N. (Chris) Horne, both of Washington; a brother, Joseph J. Horne, of Washington; two sisters, Laura Wade (Lewis), of Frederick, Maryland, and Blanche H. Boardley, of Washington; six grandchildren, Mickey, Jr., Jacob, and Shastine Horne, Jason and Stephanie Paluda, and Leigh Ann Mawhinney, and three great grandchildren, Asia and Kaya Paluda, and Mickey L. Crites Horne, III.
Deceased are two brothers, Francis W. Horne and Clyde Edward Horne; three sisters, Dorothy V. Horne, Mary Virginia McCartney and Cecilia P. Hull.
Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., Thursday, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 20, with Pastor Floyd Marasco officiating. Burial will follow in Washington Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded by American Legion, Edwin Scott Linton Post 175.
