Paul J. Kirschner, Sr., 76, of Washington, died Sunday, September 27, 2009, in the Washington Hospital.
He was born June 9, 1933, in Hazelkirk, a son of the late Samuel J. and Ruth Cowan Kirschner.
Mr. Kirschner was a 1951 graduate of East Washington High School and served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Ticonderoga during the Korean Conflict.
For 20 years he worked at Federal Paper Board as an ink matcher and for 20 years worked at Washington Steel’s Houston Plant as a stocker.
He was a lifetime member of South Strabane Volunteer Fire Department and SOAR – Steelworkers Organization of Active Retirees -- Local 07139.
Mr. Kirschner enjoyed photography, fishing, sports, and being outdoors.
He was Protestant by faith.
On November 10, 1955, he married Martha Martin, who survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Mark (Donna) Kirschner, Paul J. (Christine Sharp) Kirschner and Eric (Dawn) Kirschner, all of Washington; a daughter Pamela (Gino) Forte of Bethel Park; three brothers, Samuel Raymond Kirschner of Washington, William Melvin Kirschner of Nevada and Karl Kenneth Kirschner of Eighty-Four; a sister, Charlotte Naomi Olexa of Perryopolis; six grandchildren, Brett Kirschner, Shane Kirschner, Anthony J. Forte, Leyna Forte, Cole Kirschner and Camryn Kirschner.
Deceased are a sister, Ruth Beatrice Warrick; and three brothers, Norman Duane Kirschner, Lloyd Vernon Kirschner and James Cowan Kirschner.
Friends will be received Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, October 1st. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Gardens, McMurray. Military rites will be accorded graveside by Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 of the American Legion.
