Campbell “Took” Stephens, 73, of Washington, died Saturday, February 21, 2009, in the Donnell House, following a brief illness.
He was born July 24, 1935, in Waynesburg, a son of Oren and Etta Clair Jeanette Campbell Stephens.
Mr. Stephens graduated from Washington High School and attended classes at the University of Pittsburgh.
On December 15, 1953, he entered the U.S. Army and served during the Korean Conflict. He was stationed in Germany, where his assignment was with the Military Police.
Mr. Stephens received the Occupation of Germany Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and National Defense Service Medal. He was honorably discharged November 30, 1955.
He was the Special Events Coordinator for Cameron Coca-Cola, where he worked for forty years. In his younger days, he worked for Royal Crown Cola.
Mr. Stephens was a member of Washington Jaycees and Boys Baseball and was a Brownson House Football coach with First and Fifth Ward Schools. He was involved with Washington County sports and a member of the Hall of Fame, Washington High School football team of 1952.
He attended Immaculate Conception Church and formerly was active in the church’s fish fry.
Mr. Stephens was a life member of the American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 and the Sons of the American Revolution.
On July 7, 1956, he married Mary Ann Nofsker, who survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Mark Keith (Linda) Stephens, and Scot “Took” (Nancy) Stephens; a daughter, Lynn Stephens (Jeff) Watson; a brother, Norris Stephens, of Glenshaw; five grandchildren, Melissa, Casey, Zachary, Annie Stephens, Matthew Watson; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., Tuesday, in William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. A Blessing Service will be held at the funeral home, Wednesday, February 25, 2009, at 11:15 a.m. Burial will follow in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Bridgeville. Miltary rites will be accorded by American Legion Edwin Scott Linton Post 175.
